Digital Freedom Network, Disini & Disini Law Office, and Data Privacy Philippines, recently concluded a successful forum that enabled a diverse set of professionals with a greater understanding and appreciation of the Data Privacy Act of 2012. The whole-day forum, Navigating Compliance with the Data Privacy Act, was held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati City. Attendees of the forum ranged from government office representatives to private company compliance and data protection officers.
Deputy Commissioner Leandro Aguirre of the National Privacy Commission gave the keynote address, where he discussed several novel legal issues that have come to fore since the enactment of the Data Privacy Act, such as the evolution of the “reasonable expectation of privacy” standard traditionally applied by the courts. The succeeding panel discussions featured members of the Data Privacy Core Team of Disini & Disini Law, led by the Firm’s Managing Partner, Atty. JJ Disini, and partner Atty. Mark Parcia. The panel also included Information Security expert Kamesh Ganeson, who discussed the latest best practices for information security. The panel and audience engaged in lengthy and fruitful discussions on handling different issues officers face on a daily basis when it comes to compliance of the Data Privacy Act.
